2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Truck

The all-new 2017 F-150 Raptor is the toughest, most capable, more sophisticated Raptor ever.

The high-performance off-road truck world was shaken to its core back in late 2009 with the arrival of the first-generation V8-powered F-150 Raptor. Gone from dealerships since the 2012 model year, the Raptor returns as an all-new 2017 model with more horsepower and torque, greater ride height, better suspension, more sophisticated AWD system, and an overall weight reduced by 227 kg through the use of high-strength military-grade aluminum in the body.

A Broader, Brawnier Ford Raptor

With its additional of six-inches of track width and nearly two inches, additional ground clearance over its predecessor, the 2017 F-150 Raptor immediately captures your attention. Of course, there’s the bold FORD lettering on rear tailgate and front mesh grille to remind the viewer they’ve spotted a Raptor. The exterior also features rounded wheel arches with large wheel mouldings, and exclusive front and rear bumpers – all of which give room for suspension travel of 330 mm front and 353-inch rear suspension. Fitted at each corner are 44% larger internal-bypass Fox Racing Shox which are better tuned for both on- and off-ride ride and stability.

The all-new 2017 F-150 Raptor features an exclusive high-strength steel box frames and includes a Raptor-only SuperCab configuration with a 3409 mm wheelbase.

The 2017 Raptor comes with second-generation BF Goodrich KO2 tires designed exclusively for the Raptor’s extended off-road capabilities. For ultimate off-road traction and durability, Ford offers available 17-inch forged alloy bead-lock capable rims. In fact, Ford entered a 2017 Raptor in the Stock Truck class of the Baja 1000. Unlike other teams, the Ford received only the required safety equipment with no performance upgrades. It even ran on the same BFGoodrich tires that are standard equipment. The Raptor finished third in class with no problems and the team then drove it home to Arizona.

The Terrain Management System Custom-tailors Capabilities to the Situation

Further technology improvements include an innovative Terrain Management System that automatically selects the most suitable two-, four- (high/low) or all-wheel drive mode as well as recalibrates engine, transmission, braking and stability control systems for optimum performance on the selected terrain. Modes range from Comfort to Baja, and Rock Crawl to Mud.

The jewel of the 2017 Ford Raptor is its engine: a newly –developed version of the 3.5 L high-output EcoBoost 24-valve V6 engine that develops a staggering 510 lb-ft of torque and 450 horsepower. For those keeping score, that’s 76 ft-lb more of torque and 39 horsepower more than the most powerful previous generation Raptor. A key to the power generation is two intercooled higher boost twin turbochargers that drive generate an incremental 85 horsepower and 50 lb-ft torque over the standard F-150 EcoBoost 3.5-liter engine. At the other end, a new dual exhaust system designed specifically for the Raptor has been tuned to deliver a distinctive performance sound. Delivering that power is an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission.

An Interior Fitting for the King of Off-road Pickup Trucks

On the inside, you’ll find deep bolstered seating with exclusive embroidered Raptor logos and available color accent leather, a performance contoured steering wheel with magnesium paddle shifters, and optional carbon fiber trim accents. Roof-mounted auxiliary switches are located overhead for easy reach and can be used to control aftermarket equipment such as additional lighting or other ancillary component.

The 2017 Ford Raptor features the SYNC 3 connectivity system, with its 203 mm LED multi-purpose screens in the center stack and instrument panels that display vehicle status. The display also provides 360--degree exterior visibility via the camera system (with a clever lens washer system on the front camera that’s activated with the windshield wipers) with Split-view Display. SYNC 3 provides voice-activated control over telecommunications and entertainment systems, along with smartphone integration to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
