Ford has Extended the Range of the 2017 Focus Electric by 51 Percent

The Focus Electric has provided a greener choice to Ford customers since its introduction in 2011. The big news for 2017 is an improved driving range, as rated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The range has jumped from last year’s 122 kilometers to an improved EPA-estimated driving range of 185 kilometers a 51% increase.*

More powerful batteries that take up no additional space

The improvement in range is the result of Ford’s fitting a more efficient liquid-cooled 33.5 kilowatt-hours lithium-ion battery, a 40 percent increase over last year with no increase in size. The 2017 Ford Electric now comes standard with all-new DC Fast Charge, which can deliver 75 miles of range in 30 minutes when using a charger capable of delivering 150 amps.

Ford worked to provide an industry-standard SAE J1772 CCS plug that is both sturdy and ergonomic. When the connector is plugged into the charge port, owners will see a state-of-charge LED indicator with flashing quadrants that represent the status of the charge. When solidly lit it indicates a completed charge cycle.

The all-electric motor and single-speed automatic transmission are responsive and accelerate smoothly, reaching speeds of up to 135 km/h. Yet even at highway speeds, the cabin remains quiet and comfortable.

The Driver Is In Control with SmartGauge with EcoGuide

The driver faces a dashboard display of SmartGauge with EcoGuide which uses images of blue butterflies to represent surplus range. At the end of each trip, the display summarizes distance driven, miles gained through regenerative braking, energy consumed, and the energy conserved over a car that had been fueled with gasoline instead.

Eco-conscious materials used include soy, bio-based foam seat cushions and fabric made with recycled content. REPREVE fabric is made from 100 percent recycled content for its six-way manual driver (up/down, fore/aft, recline) and four-way manual passenger (fore/aft, recline) seats, which are also heated (front buckets only). To ensure comfort of driver and passenger alike a Dual-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (DEATC). In the rear is a 60/40 split folding rear bench with flip up cushion.

Bring Your Smartphone and Stay Connected

Technology and communications are well-integrated in the 2017 Ford Focus Electric, with a Sony nine-speaker audio system, available SiriusXM radio, two Smart Charging USB ports, and SYNC 3, Ford’s enhanced Voice Recognition Communications and Entertainment System with 203 mm LCD Capacitive Touchscreen with Swipe Capability and Voice-activated Touchscreen Navigation in the Centre Stack.

Interior Comforts for a Cold Alberta Morning

Other standard features for Canada include remote start, rearview camera, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated steering wheel, heated front seats, and side view mirrors. A host of standard safety and security features includes seven airbags, and AdvanceTrac with Electronic Stability Control.

In addition the 2017 Ford Focus Electric includes MyFord Mobile app which allows owners to remotely check existing charge levels, estimated fuel and electric ranges, as well as the amount of charge time necessary for additional distance, remotely lock and unlock doors, remotely start or cancel remote start and to set go times, which customers can use to set desired interior temperature using utility power before starting out on a trip.
